AN ODE TO OUR FOUNDERS

Sconehenge Beginnings traces back to 1998, with the opportunity presented by Glenn and Diane Yasuda, founders of Berkeley Bowl, to take over what was then known as the Berkeley Bowl Cafe on the corner of Shattuck Ave and Stuart Street. June and Andy Lee, after operating the restaurant Omnivore nearby, shifted their focus to bakery and cafe service. From late nights to early mornings, they brought life to Sconehenge's delicious tea scones, initially under a single roof at 2787 Shattuck Ave. June managed the cafe while Andy baked and distributed samples to high-end markets; confident in the exceptional quality of their tea scones, he knew this was a recipe worth sharing. Their dedication to quality led Sconehenge to be a sought-after product by  Whole Foods and other artisan-forward markets and groceries. Ensuring baking operations to expand to meet demand.

For over two decades, June, Andy, and their daughter Angela Lee have provided Northern California with top-quality products, expanding from tea scones to galettes, cookies, almond cake, and English muffins (exclusive to the cafe). Their commitment to excellent customer service has cultivated a loyal customer base, with generations of Bay Area patrons returning time and again.

Today, the Bakery and Cafe have separate locations, with the bakery just around the corner on Ward Street, selling over 15,000 products weekly. In February of 2023, June and Andy retired, but to ensure Sconehenge's legacy endured, they made a significant decision. They transitioned the business to employee ownership, entrusting it to their dedicated employees, many of whom have been with Sconehenge for over a decade and some for over two. This act of trust in their team's capabilities ensures that Sconehenge will continue to provide delicious products in the years to come.
